- 48 - F i nance Month l y M&A Awards 2021 - SWITZERLAND - About Alexander Gut Alexander Gut studied at the University of Zurich and graduated in 1990 with an MBA degree (lic. oec. publ.). He started his professional career as an accountant at KPMG in Zurich and qualifed as a Swiss Certified Accountant (dipl. Wirtschaftsprüfer) in 1996. In between, he completed his post-graduate studies and was awarded his Ph.D. (Dr. oec. publ.) from the University of Zurich in 1995. The topic of his thesis was “AuditingOTCDerivatives forBanks”. After10yearsof auditingand advising national and international banking and insurance clients in Zurich and London, he joined the Corporate Finance division of Ernst & Young in Zurich, focussing on the financial services sector. In 2003, he returned to KPMG to lead the financial services practice in Zurich and in 2005 was promoted to the Executive Board of KPMG Switzerland, responsible for the Swiss-wide Financial Services practice.
